One of the countless waterfalls in Hornvik, Iceland. Also one of the most beautiful. After 2 days of rain in this area, we watched the number of waterfalls at least double, and the vegetation shot upwards within a 24 hour period. Entire lakes appeared  where there had previously been dry ground. This area gets so much rain and has such lush vegetation, it almost has a tropical feel to it. Not exactly what one would expect from an arctic coastal region, nearly at the arctic circle.

I met these 2 little guys when hiking in the Alps around Innsbruck in 2006. I came up the trail next to an alm and there they were, wondering what in the world I was doing in their spot!

I took this picture on slide film about 10 years ago. The climbing route is 'Hobbit's Couloir' (NEI 4+) at Frankenstein Cliffs in the White Mountains, NH. This is the most technically difficult ice climbing I have ever done. Ice climbs in New England have their own grading system "NEI" (it stands for 'New England Ice')which goes from NEI 1 to NEI 5. This climb is almost the top of the scale. It's quite an incredible feeling to climb up such delicate and temporary natural structures in cold winter conditions. A very humbling yet empowering experience.
