Damascus Gate at sunset
The Gate of Damascus in Jerusalem is an impressive piece of architecture. This Structure was constructed in 1537 by Sulieman the Magnificent, Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, although the gate is built on top of another gate which stems from the Roman rule of Hadrian in 200 AD. I sat at the gate as the sun was setting eating bananas and flatbread, enjoying the fading light as the prayer calls echoed around the walls of the city. It was at the end of my stay in Jerusalem, and the ambience of the situation made it a memorable moment in my journey.
